Kitemark Explained: Colt Cowls Journey.

BSI KitemarkThe following is the procedure that must be followed when applying to have the Kitemark trademark applied to products.

BSI Group owns the Kitemark trademark and are the only organisation able to award the mark. The Kitemark is the absolute top level quality assurance for all customers – domestic and commercial. This trademark is widely accepted and recognised throughout the world.

The process that a company has to go through to obtain Kitemark approval is tough and time consuming for the applicant and because of the work involved by BSI and its agents in carrying out initial and on-going assessment and certification the cost is high.

Kitemark Process
1: A detailed application must be submitted by the client to BSI

2: Once accepted in submitted or modified form a detailed programme of assessment and approval is undergone involving all aspects of the clients business from production through to sales. This includes, An assessment of the company’s documentation with regard to the quality management, process and control that takes place in the company’s Head Office and involved the examination of detailed documentation to do with objectives, assessment and control.
Annual reviews continue whilst the Kitemark is in place.

3: Factory Production Control

Detailed assessment twice a year of quality control processes at manufacturing units      or unit. This includes detailed examination of quality control techniques and processes.

These visits are organised via BSI’s China offices at the premises of Kaysted’s contractor in China. On-going improvements and modifications to the processes are implemented as the review process continues.

The major advantage for Kaysted’s contractor is that with the assistance of Kaysted the contractor had received ISO 9001 certification in 2015 so was already a long way down the route of ensuring quality products. ISO 9001 certification is an annual inspection independent of the BSI Kitemark process.Kitemark Explained: Colt Cowls Journey

4.)  Products to be assessed must also be tested and approved against all relevant British and BSEN (British Standard Euro Norm) standards. This involves independent testing by notified bodies such as BISRIA.
All of the 7 products now Kitemarked by BSI for Kaysted have been so tested.

Once all of the above 4 stages have been completed satisfactorily according to BSI’s strict approval system and committee a Kitemark certificate is issued.

The Kitemark label may then be applied to products but only those which are the subject of the certificate. In addition a different version of the Kitemark may be applied to packaging and promotional material.
What does this mean for the customer?

The customer can be 100% assured that products that carry the Kitemark meet the most stringent quality requirements and performance standards.
