Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps Exhibition 2017 Review

For the second year in a row the Guild Trade exhibition has broken all previous records. Is this Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps Exhibition 2017 Reviewsuccess a sign of a confident and growing industry? Or maybe it’s a reflection of good organization and what the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps offers to exhibitors, visitors and members. Probably a bit of both to be fair. The central location of The Oxford Belfry, Oxfordshire proved popular for all. Event organiser Steven Howard said “The stands sold out 5 months in advance so all we needed to do was supply the visitors. The promotion was helped by the 30 excellent companies exhibiting with us and their great show offers.” “Getting a consistent flow of visitors throughout the two day event is always a challenge. We know how many Guild members are coming because they’ve booked their free lunch.” “Because the member’s AGM is held after the exhibition, the Saturday is always busy but I was particularly pleased with the very steady flow of visitors on the Friday.”

The feedback from visitors and exhibitors has been excellent and it was quite obvious that a lot of money was changing hands. Many visitors had obviously been doing their homework and had identified their main purchases in advance and the offers promoted in advance by some exhibitors were proving a real draw.

Chimney sweep and installer Iain Stevens from Penzance said  “I’ve been here 10 minutes, I’ve not even got through the door yet and I’ve already spent £1500.”

Valiant Fireside Accessories sponsored the event this year sales manager Sharron  Batchelor said ” We’d like to  thank you for a very well organised event and the hospitality over the last few days.  The show had a really good buzzy and friendly feel about it. It was our pleasure to be your sponsor and look forward to supporting the Guild in the coming year.”

The Best Van competition was popular again. The competition is open to all and a record 17 hopefuls entered this year. We were delighted to have Guild Technical Director  Stefan Waumsley back for the judging. The winner was Tony Preston from The Wirral. Last year’s winner Craig Forster was on hand to give the award and a cheque for £250. A runner up prize was awarded for the first time and Andrew Lovick from Great Yarmouth won £100.

Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps Exhibition 2017 Review 2Awards were made to Valiant Fireside accessories for the Best Supplier and to Kerstar (vacuums) for Best Product. Two lucky prize winners were drawn from visitors business cards. Andrew Lovick (again) and Tony Lavin from Lincoln who both opted for a year’s free Guild subs worth £264.

Saturday night was the occasion of the Gala dinner with another record number attending. It was great to see so many wives and partners and children come to enjoy the excellent food and company. This year the dinner was opened up to members of other associations and several well known faces were in attendance. The Guild members were gentle with them though and some were even allowed to keep their raffle prizes. The dinner is also the occasion of the famous Guild Charity Raffle and the presentation of the raffle proceeds, as well as some in house awards and certifications. It’s always a great evening and you can find all the details in a separate article.

So with a record number of exhibitors and visitors, record competition entries, a record number of members attending the AGM, more dinner guests than ever and a new record for the charity raffle, what about next year? Well, more of the same really. Lawson Wight Guild PR said “The venue is a great location and it has room for a little growth. The food was just excellent, staff were always on hand and were very accommodating. With so much going for it we’ve decided to return again next year, in early March.” “Next year is the 25th anniversary for the Guild so we will be organizing some special events around the Exhibition weekend.”  Details will be advertised soon.

The Guild would like to sincerely thank Mr Steven Howard for his excellent organization. Steven steps down from this role this year and he’ll be difficult to replace.
Everyone is welcome at the Guild!
