Emergency Services Mistakenly Called to Dimplex's Opti-myst Range

Even if it is a little early a real life April Fool's type of  News Story : Emergency Services Mistakenly Called to Dimplex's Opti-myst Range of Flame Effect Electric Fires Members of the public, as reported by a Dimplex source have unwittingly verified the realism of Dimplex’s Opti-myst electric flame effect range of fires by mistaking them for the real thing in two separate showroom incidents.

In the first incident in Nairn, Scotland, a passer-by after seeing a Dimplex Danville model electric fire, complete with ‘flames’ and ‘smoke’, glowing in the window of a Scottish Hydro Electric store after the store had closed, for business for the day, promptly alerted the emegency services to a 'fire'.

Moira Chalmers from the store was left presumably red faced and a little flustered but managed to explain to the police and fire brigade that Opti-myst fires use just water and lights to create the revolutionary ‘flame’ and ‘smoke’ effect.

In an entirely unrelated incident, independent retailer Clocktower Electrics in Milnthorpe, Cumbria, reports how a passer-by ran into the shop to report a ‘fire’ in the street facing display window when in fact it was again, a Dimplex Opti-myst range electric fire but this time the Westbrook model.

Owner Tom Harvey when interviewed reportedly said: “People are always amazed at the quality and realism of the Opti-myst effect which is certainly much better than any other electric flame effect on the market - but this is the first time anybody has said they thought it was a real fire in the window!”

Karen Trewick, director of communications at Dimplex reportedly said: “Opti-myst is the world’s first truly 3D flame effect for electric fires. It uses ultrasonic technology to break up water from an internal reservoir, creating a fine mist which is illuminated to create the ‘flames’ and ‘smoke’. It’s a truly revolutionary effect and I’m not surprised it’s been mistaken for a real fire. In fact, many of our customers say the same when they have visitors to their house”.

The fire brigade and police in Nairn fortunately for all concerned maintained their sense of humour and saw the funny side of the situation and left soon after after being shown a short demonstration of how the Opti-myst system works.
