FIREPLACE GRATES
Generally used for solid fuel, a grate holds the burning fuel above an ashpan and are available in a wide range of designs and widths.
Normally made of cast iron, it would form part of a fireplace within a fireplace opening, and require a fire front (fret) in front of it. There are models available that have an integral fire front which fit the standard 16 or 18 inch ‘builders lumps’.
